May 20, 2024 - Three Comal ISD varsity winter guard teams competed in state-level contests this spring with the team from Smithson Valley High School placing third in the state in its division; and Davenport High School placing fourth in its division.
During the state competition, each team has one opportunity to perform in front of judges who critique movement, design, equipment and general effect.
Both SVHS and DHS advanced in the Texas Color Guard Circuit and competed on April 6 at Reed Arena on the campus of Texas A&M University. While DHS is a 4A school, it competes in the Scholastic A Class against 5A and 6A schools. It is the only 4A team to advance to state in the Scholastic A or Scholastic AA competition, and it placed fourth in the state with a score of 82.375.
The SVHS team competed in the Scholastic AA division and received the bronze medal for its performance with a score of 78.065.
The Varsity Winter Guard team from Canyon Lake High School advanced to the state-level competition through the Texas Educational Colorguard Association (TECA), performing on March 23 in San Antonio.
