Art Students Receive VASE Honors

June 23, 2023 - Comal ISD art students received accolades for their work through the Texas High School Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) this spring with one student earning the coveted Gold Seal and eight students earning an Exemplary rating and medal.

Art student Morgan Davidson from Memorial Early College High School is a Gold Seal winner for her entry titled “Cognitivethinking.” A state jury panel selects Gold Seal winners from artworks which received Exemplary rating (IV). This year 151 entries were given a Gold Seal including Davidson who received a medal and the distinction of having her artwork tour the state through November.

Eight Comal ISD students earned an Exemplary rating for their entries including Jazy Childers from Hill Country College Preparatory High School, Dakota Fisher from MECHS, Ashlyn R. Jordan from Canyon Lake High School, Carol McCormick from CLHS, Kevin Mendoza from CLHS, Meghan Ruane from MECHS, Randie S. Selzer from CLHS and Priscilla Velazquez from MECHS.

Hosted by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA), the High School VASE competition includes approximately 35,000 art entries from across the state. Students not only create their artwork; they also are asked to write about their creative processes and their understanding of visual art. Each student is allowed to submit a maximum of two art entries every year.
