Feb. 7, 2023 - Today, eight student athletes from Davenport High School signed National Letters of Intent to play the sport of their choice at the collegiate level, joining two others who signed letters Monday and Friday.
National Signing Day may have been set for Feb. 1, but plans for Comal ISD athletes were postponed due to severe weather that shut down the district for several days last week.
That didn’t dampen the excitement, however, for family, teammates, coaches and friends who were excited to celebrate athletes from DHS, Canyon High School and Canyon Lake High School with balloons, hugs, handshakes and lots of photos.
Signing day represents a culmination of years of early morning and late-night practices, lessons, wins and losses.
While CHS and CLHS hosted signing days on Friday, one student from CHS was missed, and one student from CLHS had to reschedule for Monday. One make-up signing day remains for Comal ISD at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Smithson Valley High School.
From CHS, Kaitlyn Kyle signed a letter of intent to bowl at the University of Texas San Antonio on Friday; and Brett Harwell from CLHS signed a letter of intent to play football for Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday.
This marked the second National Signing Day in school history for DHS with students taking time to share heartfelt, “thank you,” to those who helped them along the way.
