Every campus within the Comal Independent School District will honor military men and women on Monday, Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day 2019. Students, families and friends will gather for various ceremonies to pay tribute and show gratitude to those who have served the United States in the military.
“Veterans Day celebrations have become a tradition at Comal ISD,” says Superintendent Andrew Kim. “It is important to take the time to honor our community members, many parents, uncles, aunts and brothers and sisters, who have served and continue to serve our country. We are in awe of each of them and grateful for their sacrifices.”
Veterans Day, a federal holiday, is celebrated every year on Nov. 11, regardless of the day of the week it happens to fall on. First recognized as Armistice Day in 1919, Veterans Day marks the date when Germany and the allies signed a 1918 agreement to end World War I. The fighting stopped on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
